Project Overview
TWK Scaffolding was appointed by Maguire Brothers to provide multiple temporary roofs and perimeter access scaffolding for emergency roofing works at MOD Blandford Camp in Dorset.
The works involved several buildings within the defence establishment, each requiring temporary weather protection and suitable working platforms to allow the roofing teams to undertake essential repairs.
With the roofing works classified as emergency repairs, getting the temporary cover in place was an important part of the programme.
Our scope brought the temporary roofing structures and supporting access scaffolds together as one package, allowing Maguire Brothers to carry out the necessary repairs beneath protected working areas.
As the site remained operational, erection activities, deliveries and personnel access also needed to be coordinated around the establishment’s security and working requirements.
The Challenge — Emergency Repairs Across Several Buildings
Emergency roofing works bring a particular challenge: the building needs protecting before the permanent repairs can be carried out.
At Blandford Camp, several buildings required temporary roofing, with each installation needing to accommodate the roof being repaired and the access required by Maguire Brothers’ roofing teams.
The structures needed to provide sufficient clearance and working space beneath the temporary coverings, while the perimeter scaffolding provided access around the buildings.
Coordinating several temporary roofs also meant planning labour, equipment and deliveries around the different work areas.
The MOD environment added another consideration. Access to the establishment was controlled, so personnel, deliveries and erection activities had to be arranged in accordance with the site’s requirements.
The challenge was to provide the necessary weather protection promptly while maintaining practical access for the roofing works.

We supplied and erected the temporary roof structures alongside the perimeter scaffolding required for the roofing works.
Rather than treating weather protection and access as separate installations, we coordinated both elements to provide suitable working areas beneath the coverings and access around the buildings.
Each arrangement was planned around the building and the work being undertaken, with the supporting scaffolds and temporary roofing structures considered together.
This allowed Maguire Brothers’ roofing operatives to work beneath temporary weather protection, reducing exposure to adverse conditions while carrying out the repairs.
Our teams also coordinated their work around the establishment’s controlled access arrangements, organising erection activities and material movements to suit the site.
By providing both the temporary roofs and perimeter access, TWK delivered a coordinated scaffolding package to support the emergency repair programme across the affected buildings.

The completed installations provided temporary weather protection and working access for Maguire Brothers’ roofing teams across several buildings at Blandford Camp.
The project required a responsive approach to emergency roofing requirements, alongside the additional planning involved in working within an operational defence establishment.
